## Why it matters

Josephine Teo's 6 October reply commits only to monitoring AI chip export controls and remote-compute restrictions and engaging companies, with measures to be considered if necessary; no specific response was announced.

## Summary

Mr Saktiandi Supaat asked the Minister for Digital Development and Information whether tighter foreign export controls on AI chips and restrictions on remote access to overseas computing infrastructure would affect Singapore's data centre and cloud services sectors, and what mitigation steps the Government would take. Mrs Josephine Teo replied that the Government is monitoring these developments and engaging companies on potential impact, and will consider appropriate measures if necessary.

## Key points

- The Government is monitoring developments on export controls on AI chips.
- The Government is also tracking restrictions on remote access to overseas computing resources.
- The Government is engaging companies to assess the potential impact on Singapore's data centre and cloud services sectors.
- If necessary, the Government will consider appropriate measures to mitigate the impact on Singapore-based companies.

37 Mr Saktiandi Supaat asked the Minister for Digital Development and Information (a) whether tighter foreign export controls on AI chips and restrictions on remote access to overseas computing infrastructure will affect Singapore's data centre and cloud services sectors; (b) if so, how; and (c) what steps the Government is taking to mitigate any such impact on these sectors.

Mrs Josephine Teo : We are monitoring developments on export controls on artificial intelligence (AI) chips and restrictions on remote access to computing resources. We are also engaging companies on the potential impact, if any, to Singapore's data centre and cloud services sectors. If necessary, we will consider appropriate measures to mitigate the impact of these developments on Singapore-based companies.
