Speech Lab’s core capability is audio-to-text, covering English, Mandarin, and Singlish, with support for code-switching speech recognition. AI Singapore’s official page also stresses domain customization and an on-premise deployment option.

Typical uses include call-centre transcription, interview transcription, medical-consultation notes, and voice-command transcription for chatbots and digital assistants.

Speech AI is one of the hardest and most underestimated localization problems. Generic ASR models can be strong on standard English, yet degrade on Singapore accents, Singlish particles, and English-Mandarin mixing.

Speech Lab’s value is turning "how Singaporeans actually speak" into model capability.

Speech Lab directly serves Singapore public-service and enterprise-service scenarios. Government hotlines, customer service, and medical consultations all need multilingual speech transcription, often with sensitive data, making localization and on-premise deployment important.
