Detailed Notes

On 20 May 2026, at ATxSummit 2026, NVIDIA announced its first Singapore research lab — also NVIDIA's second research presence in Asia Pacific. NVIDIA Chief Scientist and Senior Vice President of Research Dr. William Dally was present for the announcement.

Two research tracks:

1. Embodied AI — robots and autonomous systems that perceive, reason and act in the physical world. Application focus includes intelligent inspection, autonomous assembly, and predictive maintenance — aligning with Singapore's advanced-manufacturing base and the same-day Punggol Digital District multi-operator robot testbed. 2. Efficient AI computing — lowering compute costs, improving energy efficiency, and enabling broader AI deployment. This is algorithmic and systems-level efficiency research beyond NVIDIA's own hardware roadmap (H100 → B200 → Rubin).

Collaboration model: the lab will work with local universities, industry partners, and government agencies — specific partner institutions not disclosed at announcement. Dr. Dally also addressed 300+ polytechnic and university students at Singapore Polytechnic the same day on IC design.

Strategic significance: against the backdrop of Singapore contributing roughly 15% of NVIDIA's global revenue, this is NVIDIA's first research presence in Singapore — not just a commercial one. It moves Singapore from the "GPU rerouting hub" narrative toward "original AI research node." The "Advanced Manufacturing" mission under the same-day NAIS update strongly resonates with this lab. Josephine Teo's speech: "This is why we welcome NVIDIA's new Research Lab in Singapore, focussing on embodied AI and efficient AI."
