Detail
e-Residency digital identity system is a flagship infrastructure from Estonia's 1.0 era (since 2014) — providing digital identity to non-residents for remote company formation, banking, digital contracts. By 2024: 120+ countries, 110 000+ e-Residents, 25 000+ registered companies, single-year government tax contribution €170m+. AI tie-in: e-Residency's electronic signature + digital identity provide the authentication backbone for Bürokratt and the 50+ government AI use cases. Assessment: e-Residency is not an AI project, but it is the showcase of Estonia's "infrastructure reuse" approach to AI — the reason AI use cases can deploy at ~€200 000 each is that authentication / data exchange / digital signature are already in place via X-Road + e-Residency.
