NAISC
NAISC (National AI Student Challenge) is AISG's nationwide student AI competition, spanning four educational levels from secondary school through university. It serves as the "top of the funnel" for early AI talent discovery in Singapore — using competition to identify, develop, and channel AI-interested students into the AI pipeline.
📖 What it is
NAISC's design:
- Tiered by level: secondary schools, junior colleges (JC), polytechnics (Poly), and universities
- Multiple tracks: algorithm competitions, applied projects, creative challenges
- Continuous nurturing: winners get further AISG training opportunities
- AISG educator mentorship: professional guidance throughout the competition
With 2,000+ annual participants, it is Singapore's largest student-facing AI event.
🤖 Relation to AI
NAISC tackles "early AI talent discovery" — getting secondary-school students into AI early.
A long-running issue with Singapore's AI talent strategy is that "the top of the funnel is too narrow": waiting until university CS departments to introduce AI is too late. NAISC pushes AI literacy down to secondary schools and JCs so the seeds of interest sprout early.
🇸🇬 Relation to Singapore
NAISC is the longest-horizon talent bet in Singapore's AI strategy — today's secondary-school students are the AI engineers of the 2030s.
Across the seven transmission levers:
- Lever 2 (Talent): early talent identification and cultivation
Take: NAISC's payback cycle stretches 5-10 years, but it is the key variable for whether Singapore still has abundant AI talent in the 2030s.
