Detailed Notes
On 24 January 2026, the Ministry of Digital Development and Information announced over S$1 billion (about US$779 million) in public AI research funding for 2026-2030. Three priorities: research on "responsible and resource-efficient AI," extending the trusted-AI track that includes AI Verify; full-pipeline AI talent development, from junior college pre-tertiary programmes to university faculty training; and industry applications, shortening the path from research to commercialisation. Coming after 2024's S$500 million in high-performance computing, this marks Singapore's shift from pilot exploration to scaled build-out. Per-capita AI investment reaches US$139 — far above the US (US$33) and China (US$7).
