MBZUAI (Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence) was founded by the Abu Dhabi government in 2019, the world's first research university dedicated exclusively to AI. It offers PhD / Master programmes in machine learning, NLP, and computer vision; tuition is fully waived and stipends are provided. Faculty have been recruited from CMU, MIT, UCL, Tsinghua. By 2025 it ranks in the Top 20-30 globally in AI/ML academic rankings. Assessment: MBZUAI is the most concrete asset in the UAE's "AI sovereignty" narrative — going from zero to global Top 30 in 4-5 years is the result of heavy spending plus an international-talent combo.
