Singapore AI strategy cannot rely only on applied engineering. It also needs researchers who can publish at top venues and contribute to core algorithms. The fellowship connects funding, university nominations and AISG research themes into a fundamental research pipeline.

Research Themes
Official themes include trustworthy and explainable AI, privacy-aware AI, resource-efficient AI, collaborative AI and continuous-learning AI. These fit Singapore constraints: sensitive data, limited compute, a strong trust brand and the need for cross-lingual, cross-institution collaboration.
